Prairie wings outfitters is one of the Pioneers of spring snow goose hunting. We began over ten years ago before electronic calls were even legalized. A lot has changed in ten years (except the location), Squaw Creek Refuge in the northwest corner of Missouri is still the absolute bottleneck of the flyway. Mound city, located approximately 1 hour north of Kansas city is a sleepy little Midwestern town 10 months of the year. But come spring time when the geese arrive (upwards of 500,000) usually about Mid February so do the hunters. Guides are a dime a dozen in this area, I have always believed the success of an outfitter is directly affected by the quality of the guides that you hire.

We were the first in the country to commercially outfit for local Canada geese, and in my opinion the hardest and greatest birds in the country to hunt, certianly some of the biggest! Michigan was the first to offer a local Canada goose season, around 1986 and after a couple years of figuring them out we started our operation. These birds can be well over 15 years old and many over 20 years of age, they live here year round and grow fat, weighing as much as 20lbs.
